Reflection Options

Reflect or Journal on one or more of the following:

  • Recall a time you felt God wasn’t trustworthy.  What caused you to feel that way? Explore some of the scripture verses below and see if your feelings (though understandable) may not have been based on the truth of God’s character.

  • Ask 3-5 people you know to be strong believers why they think God is trustworthy.  Ask for them to give specific examples.  Write the examples down and discuss with your mentoring partner.

Quote Interaction

  • Faith is a reasoning trust, a trust which reckons thoughtfully and confidently upon the trustworthiness of God. (John Stott)

  • Few delights can equal the mere presence of one whom we trust utterly. (George MacDonald)

Read and Reflect from the book, Shaping The Journey of Emerging Adults:

  • Look at the descriptions of trusting (pp. 61-62). How does Christ’s example inspire you?

  • Read about Paul and Timothy’s relationship (pp. 68-73).  How do they live out lives of trust in the Father? In what ways do you wish you were more like Paul or Timothy?

 Explore Scripture

Meditate on one or more of the following passages. Always look them up in context.  Take some time to really explore the verse in relation to this topic.  Look for reasons in these scripture for understanding God as trustworthy or faithful.  Make a note of what you discover to share later.  See "Learn More About Ways to Study Scripture" below for help in getting the most out of the verse.
